Medicare Supplement Insurance—commonly referred to as Medicare Supplements—is designed to help fill the financial gaps left by Original Medicare. While Medicare Parts A and B cover a large portion of healthcare costs, they don’t pay for everything. That’s where a Medicare Supplement policy can make a big difference.
These plans, offered by private insurance companies, help cover expenses such as deductibles, copays, and coinsurance—giving you more predictable out-of-pocket costs and added peace of mind.
Why Consider a Medicare Supplement Plan?
If you’re enrolled in Original Medicare, a Supplement plan can serve as a valuable layer of protection. Some plans even offer benefits for emergency care during foreign travel. With a Medicare Supplement plan in place, you can worry less about unexpected bills and focus more on your health.
Who Can Enroll?
To be eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan, you must:
- Be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B.
- Pay a monthly premium for your Supplement plan (this is separate from your Part B premium).
Please note: Medicare Supplement plans are for individuals, not families. If you and your spouse both want coverage, each of you must enroll in your own plan. Additionally, you cannot have both a Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Advantage Plan at the same time.
